Eyebrows (maintenance): What to Do in the First 48 Hours
By Charmin The Wax Whisperer | October 27, 2026
Here’s the number one rule after brow maintenance: hands off and keep the area cool and clean for the first 24 to 48 hours. Even though we use hard wax that doesn’t stick to skin, only hair, your skin can still act a little reactive right after. In Knoxville heat and humidity, sweat and makeup are usually the fastest way to turn “perfect brows” into bumps.
Our Eyebrows (maintenance) service is quick, straightforward, and priced at $17, but the aftercare is what protects the clean shape you just paid for. If you’ve ever searched “waxing near me” and ended up with irritation, it’s usually not the wax itself. It’s what happens after: heat, sweat, makeup, sun, and a little too much “just one more tweeze.”
The first 24–48 hours after eyebrow waxing: the rules that matter
Right after your appointment, a little pinkness is normal. What we generally recommend is simple: keep your brows clean, keep them cool, and don’t clog those freshly cleared follicles.
Do this today
- Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser.
- If you’re red or a little warm, press a cool (not icy) clean compress for a few minutes.
- Soothe with pure aloe vera or alcohol-free witch hazel as needed for up to three days.
Skip this for 24–48 hours
- No brow makeup (pencil, pomade, powder) directly on the area.
- No heavy exercise, hot yoga, saunas, or steam. Sweat can trigger irritation fast, especially in Knoxville summers.
- No swimming pools or hot tubs. Chlorine plus freshly waxed skin is a rough combo.
- No tanning beds and limit direct sun exposure.
If you’re in the Ball Camp area or north Knoxville near Halls Crossroads and Fountain City, a lot of our regulars schedule quick brow maintenance around school drop-off or an I-75/I-640 commute. If you know you’ll be running around in the heat right after, plan your appointment for a day you can keep things calm for a solid 24 hours.
Days 3–7: keep your brows smooth, not angry
Once the first 48 hours are done, most people feel totally normal. That’s when the sneaky stuff happens: over-tweezing, exfoliating too soon, or hitting the gym hard and wondering why bumps show up along the brow line.
For the rest of the week, keep cleansing gentle. If you’re using strong skincare around your forehead, go easy near the brows. We generally recommend avoiding retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, and alcohol-based toners on and directly around the waxed area until the skin is fully settled.
And please don’t pick. If you get a tiny dry spot or a small scab, let it heal on its own. Picking can pull pigment, irritate the follicle, and leave you with a little bare patch that takes longer to grow back than you’d expect.
“Charmin was able to get me in last minute for a wax and didn’t make me feel rushed at all. She took her time and explained to me the difference between the wax she uses.”

A 2–3 minute brow aftercare routine (busy-parent friendly)
You don’t need a shelf full of products for eyebrows aftercare. You need consistency for a couple days. If you’re juggling work, kids, and traffic, this is the simple routine that protects your result.
Morning and night for the first 48 hours
- Rinse with lukewarm water.
- Wash with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. No scrubs.
- Pat dry with a clean towel. Don’t rub.
- Apply a thin layer of aloe vera gel or dab alcohol-free witch hazel if you’re still pink.
Quick local note: Knoxville humidity can make “I barely sweated” feel like a lie. If you’re doing errands in Powell, Halls, Fountain City, Corryton, or Karns right after your appointment, keep a clean tissue on hand and blot, don’t wipe.
Normal vs. not normal after eyebrow maintenance (and when to call us)
A little redness, mild tenderness, or slight warmth right after waxing is common and usually calms down quickly. What we don’t want you to do is tough it out if something feels like it’s getting worse.
Usually normal
- Pinkness that fades within a few hours to a day
- A little itchiness as the skin settles
- Tiny bumps that calm down when you keep makeup and sweat off the area
Reach out if you notice
- Redness or swelling that lasts beyond 48–72 hours
- Increasing pain, heat, or tenderness
- Pus, spreading redness, or anything that looks infected (and if it’s severe, also contact a medical professional)
We take aftercare seriously. People regularly tell us we’re thorough, we listen, and we coach you through what your skin needs. If something feels off, let us know. If you’re also booking other services, we can help you space things out so your skin stays happy, including brazilian waxing and the kind of “facials near me” results that come from smart timing and consistent care.
Eyebrows aftercare FAQs we hear every week in Knoxville
How long should I wait to put on makeup after Eyebrows (maintenance)?
Give it at least 24 hours, and 48 hours is even better if you’re prone to bumps. Makeup can clog open follicles and trap heat, which is why irritation tends to pop up when you cover redness too soon.
Can I exercise after having my eyebrows waxed or maintained?
We generally recommend waiting 24–48 hours before heavy sweating, hot yoga, saunas, or steam rooms. Knoxville summer humidity can push sweat into the brow area fast, which can trigger redness and bumps.
Is it okay to get my eyebrows wet after maintenance?
Yes, gently. Use lukewarm water and a mild cleanser, then pat dry. Skip hot showers aimed directly at the brows, and avoid swimming pools and hot tubs for 24–48 hours.
How do I soothe redness after eyebrow maintenance?
Keep it simple. Cool compress for a few minutes, then a light layer of pure aloe vera or alcohol-free witch hazel. Avoid exfoliants, retinoids, and alcohol-based toners until the skin is calm.
How soon can I have my eyebrows tinted after maintenance?
Wait until all irritation is fully gone. For most people that’s 48–72 hours. If you’re still pink or tender, give it more time. Tinting on irritated skin can sting and can lead to uneven results.
